The Singaporean Journal of Business Economics and Management (SJBEM) adheres to the highest standards of ethical publishing, based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines. All individuals involved in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and publishers—are expected to comply with these ethical standards.
All submissions to SJBEM undergo formal peer review by the editor-in-chief and at least two independent experts in the relevant field.
Decision-Making
The Editor-in-Chief (EIC) holds ultimate responsibility for publication decisions. Decisions are guided by the journal’s policies, the advice of the editorial board, and applicable legal requirements concerning libel, copyright, and plagiarism.
Confidentiality
Editors and staff must maintain strict confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts. Manuscript details are disclosed only to the corresponding author, reviewers, editorial advisors, and publisher as required.
Conflict of Interest
Editors must not use information from submitted manuscripts for personal research or gain without written consent from the authors.
Fairness
Manuscripts are evaluated solely on intellectual content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, political affiliation, or institutional association.
Peer Review Integrity
Reviewers provide objective, constructive feedback to guide editorial decisions and help authors improve manuscript quality.
Promptness
Reviewers should complete assessments within the journal’s specified timeframe. Any delays or inability to review must be communicated promptly to the editor.
Confidentiality
All manuscripts under review must remain confidential and may not be shared or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.
Citation of Sources
Reviewers should ensure all relevant prior work is properly cited and notify editors of any substantial overlap with existing publications.
Conflict of Interest
Reviewers must recuse themselves from manuscripts where conflicts exist, including competitive, collaborative, or institutional relationships with authors. Privileged information gained during review must not be used for personal or professional advantage.
Reporting Standards
Authors must present accurate, original, and verifiable research, including sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate reporting is unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be asked to provide underlying data for editorial review and should be prepared to retain data for a reasonable period after publication. Public access to data is encouraged where practicable.
Originality and Plagiarism
Submitted work must be original. Authors must appropriately cite prior work and avoid simultaneous or duplicate submissions.
Authorship
Authorship credit is limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research. All co-authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to submission. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged.
Ethical Use of Materials and Human/Animal Subjects
Authors must disclose any unusual hazards in experimental procedures and obtain necessary ethical approvals for research involving humans or animals.
Acknowledgments and Conflicts of Interest
All sources of financial or material support, as well as any potential conflicts of interest, must be disclosed. Contributions from colleagues who are not co-authors should be acknowledged.
Correction of Errors
Authors are responsible for accuracy. Any significant errors or inaccuracies discovered after publication must be reported immediately to the editor, and the author must cooperate with the journal to correct or retract the article if necessary.
Compliance Statement
SJBEM strictly follows COPE guidelines for publication ethics, peer review integrity, conflict of interest management, and misconduct resolution. Any suspected violations are investigated promptly and transparently to uphold the integrity of the scholarly record.
